Extreme Lava Hike
Extreme Lava Hike
Join us as we travel down to "Uncle Roberts" in Puna. Walk over the newly formed land and feel the heat as a native Hawaiian guide leads you in search of molten lava. Feel the heat under your feet, hear the crackling of the lava and keep a keen eye out for surface outbreaks. This is an experience you don't want to miss!
Lava is a natural event and can start and stop without warning. When there is no Lava visible at Kalapana we will do an alternate high adventure to view spectacular lavascapes.
This tour includes a hike over un-even terrain which can have steep trail grades. We do not recommend this tour for children under 10 years of age or those with previous leg or foot injuries as the constant surface angle change may re-aggravate injuries. These lava hikes have to cover some distance; all hikers must be able to retain a good pace over rough ground. Reliable closed toe and heel footwear like sneakers are required also appropriate clothing to protect you if you fall. Long pants a sleeved shirt and gloves will help protect those less confident walkers. We provide walking sticks and bottled water.
Tour Length: Approximately 6 Hours (depending on the lava location ) -A store stop will be made for water and snacks, keeping properly hydrated is essential. -Most common "injury" is sunburn, please bring a hat and sunscreen. Please note: Due to rapidly changing meeting places and times as new flows develop, it is essential that persons with advance reservations contact us at least a week ahead of their hike to reconfirm times and places and give us their contact information.
Any reservation not so confirmed by email or voice will be subject to cancellation. While we take pains to keep information current, this notice may be inaccurate due to unfolding events. You may call our offices any time toll free at 1-800-901-0468 for updates.
