Description:
Waipi'o On Horseback
WOH offers special guided excursions on horseback in secluded Waipi’o Valley. Our small groups savor the charm of this adventure in old Hawaii! This trek takes a leisurely pace. Our guides narrate throughout the ride, explaining the history, legends and facts of life in the valley. The path meanders through lush jungle trails along the hillside; through streams and rivers; and on to ancient Hawaiian villages. Riders see dramatic 1,200-foot waterfalls, taro patches, lotus ponds, wild horses, exotic flowers, plants, native trees and birds. See one of Hawaii’s oldest forms of farming that produces taro, a Hawaiian staple that helps feed our local community.
A minimum of two and a maximum of fourteen riders are allowed on each excursion. Refunds are given on cancellations received in our office 24 hours or more in advance of the reserved ride time.
Children under twelve years of age will be accepted if they are with a responsible adult or are experienced riders. No children under 8 years old permitted on horseback. No tours on Sundays.
Pa'ani Ranch Horseback Tours
Tucked away about 13 miles from Hilo (on the way to Volcanoes National Park) is a privately owned
cattle ranch nestled between snow capped mountains and a smoking Volcano. This special location
offers panoramic views of the Puna Coastline, Mauna Kea & Mauna Loa mountains, and the Pu’u
O’o vent. Ohia trees thick with yellow, pink, and salmon colored Lehua blossoms sway gently in the
mountain breezes. Ducks swim happily in rock wall ponds while cows, horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, and pet pigs frolic amidst rolling pastures. We offer guided Horseback Tours through our ranch twice a day.. Come and experience the Aloha, the beauty, and the fun, on our 190-acre ranch!
Must be 10 years old for horseback riding. Light refreshments provided.
Parker Ranch Horseback Tours
Come and see where it all began, PARKER RANCH, where paniolos (cowboys) and horses first met 150 years ago. The ride starts at the Blacksmiths Shop, going on to the breaking Pen, through rolling hills to the Stone Corrals, where as many as 5000 head of Hereford cattle were held after being driven down from the slopes of Mauna Kea. The cattle being driven looked like a river of red moving down the side of the mountain. From there moving on to more historical sites, such as the Red Track where famous Parker Ranch Thoroughbreds were trained and still hold World records for speed! Long pants and light jacket are recommended, light refreshments are provided. Minimum age 7.
Kahua Ranch Horseback Tours
Join us on an exclusive “top of the mountain” horseback riding adventure on historic Kahua Ranch! Enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the mountains, coastlines, stately cinder cones, and lush pastures. 2.5 hour ride.
What better place to really ride a horse and get a taste of the Big Island's Paniolo, or cowboy lifestyle, than Kahua Ranch? Kahua Ranch, located in the Kohala Mountains, was established in 1850 and is one of the oldest and most diversified ranches in Hawaii. Na'alapa Stables provide an exclusive horseback riding adventure with quality horses and open range riding. With hands on instruction and guidance we not only walk-trot, but also often cantor over green rolling hills. Today Kahua encompasses about 12,000 acres of some of the most beautiful country you'll find anywhere. There panoramic views of the coastline, snowcapped mountains and lush pastureland are dotted with sheep and cattle!
